Ercolina vs. Baileigh Tube Benders: How to Compare

Ercolina vs. Baileigh Tube Benders: How to Compare Your Options

Comparing an Ercolina tube bender with a Baileigh bending machine? The right choice depends on the part—not only the brand name. Tube diameter, wall thickness, material, centerline radius, bend quality, production volume, controls, tooling, and application support should all be reviewed before selecting a machine.

CML USA is the North American office of Ercolina and helps fabricators evaluate Ercolina rotary-draw, mandrel, CNC, and section-bending options for their applications.

Start With the Part You Need to Bend

Before comparing models, collect the following application details:

  • Tube or pipe outside diameter and wall thickness
  • Material and specification
  • Required centerline radius and bend angle
  • Number of bends and the distance between bends
  • Acceptable flattening, ovality, wrinkling, and surface marking
  • Annual volume and desired cycle time
  • Need for mandrel support, programmable positioning, or CNC automation
  • Available power, floor space, tooling, and operator requirements

Questions to Ask When Comparing Bending Machines

Can the machine produce the required bend quality?

Capacity alone does not confirm that a machine will produce an acceptable part. Review CLR, wall thickness, material behavior, tooling, mandrel requirements, and finish expectations.

What tooling is included or readily available?

Confirm bend dies, counter dies, pressure dies, mandrels, wiper dies, collets, and any special tooling needed for the actual part.

How repeatable must production be?

Occasional fabrication, repeat batches, and high-volume production can require very different controls, positioning systems, and levels of automation.

Who will review the application?

Provide a drawing or part data before buying. CML USA can help determine whether a standard rotary-draw bender, mandrel machine, positioning system, or CNC solution is the better Ercolina path.

Ercolina Benders vs. Baileigh RDB-250 and RDB-150

RDB-250 and RDB-150 are different Baileigh machines. Ercolina’s TB60-TC, 48 Plus and HB60 also serve different applications: compare your actual material, wall, radius, bend quality, power, controls and tooling before selecting one. Published maximum sizes do not mean these machines will make the same finished part.

48 Plus: programmable 2-inch class

Electromechanical rotary draw bending with one-touch stored bend angles and no hydraulic system. Published maximum: up to 2-inch mild-steel tube and 1-1/2-inch Schedule 40 pipe under Ercolina’s material assumptions. 220V single-phase power.

Consider it when the part fits its capacity and repeatable stored angles, springback visibility and a non-hydraulic drive matter.

HB60 Hot Shot: hybrid-hydraulic 2-inch class

Hybrid hydraulic gear-driven rotary draw bending with a degree wheel and automatic angle stop. Published maximum: 2-inch OD × .140-inch-wall mild-steel tube and 1-1/2-inch Schedule 40 pipe under Ercolina’s material assumptions.

HB60-M2 uses 120V single-phase power; HB60-T uses 480V three-phase power. Check the exact configuration and your tooling needs.

TB60-TC Top Bender: 2-1/2-inch class

Electromechanical rotary draw machine with touchscreen control and unlimited program storage. Its published maximum is 2-1/2-inch tube and 2-inch Schedule 40 pipe on an A53 Grade A, 48,000 psi material basis; 220V single-phase power.

Consider its controls, bend radius and tooling for larger parts rather than assuming it is interchangeable with either 2-inch-class Ercolina model.

Review the TB60-TC catalog and capacity sheet

For RDB-150 shoppers: the Baileigh RDB-150 is a 110V hydraulic machine with a larger published maximum tube and pipe capacity than the 48 Plus or HB60. Review those Ercolina models for work within their stated 2-inch mild-steel tube ratings—not as direct capacity equivalents.

For RDB-250 shoppers: compare the programmable 220V single-phase RDB-250 with the TB60-TC’s touchscreen workflow, bend program storage, tooling and required centerline radius. Specifications alone cannot establish equivalent finished-bend performance.

TB60-TC, RDB-250 and RDB-150: Published Specifications

The following table covers the larger 2-1/2-inch class. The 48 Plus and HB60 are described above separately because their published mild-steel tube maximum is 2 inches.

Specification Ercolina TB60-TC Baileigh RDB-250 Baileigh RDB-150
Drive / control Electromechanical; touchscreen Programmable rotary draw Hydraulic rotary draw; standard and auto-stop versions differ
Electrical 220V single phase 220V single phase 110V
Published maximum tube 2-1/2 in.* 2-1/2 in. OD × .125 in. wall mild steel Up to 2-1/2 in. OD mild steel; confirm wall and grade
Published maximum pipe 2 in. Schedule 40* 2 in. Schedule 40 2 in. Schedule 40
Program storage Unlimited programs via touchscreen/USB 170 bend programs No comparable program count stated on the cited product page

*Ercolina TB60-TC catalog capacity uses A53 Grade A material at 48,000 psi tensile strength. Published capacities across brands may use different wall and material assumptions; confirm them for your part. Neither price nor included tooling is compared here. The standard RDB-150 and RDB-150-AS are not the same configuration.

What to send for a useful comparison
