Ercolina TB60-TC vs. Baileigh RDB-250: Choosing a Programmable Tube and Pipe Bender

Back to all Buyer’s Guides

Published specifications reviewed October 15, 2026. Confirm the exact machine, tooling and supplied configuration with the manufacturer. This is a CML USA buyer’s guide, not independent comparative testing.

Buying a programmable rotary draw bender is not simply a choice between two machines with a similar maximum tube size. Bend radius, material strength, tooling, part handling and the operator’s programming workflow all affect whether the machine is right for your shop.

The Ercolina TB60-TC Top Bender and Baileigh RDB-250 are relevant alternatives for fabricators considering a programmable non-mandrel bender. Both publish capacities up to 2½-inch tube and 2-inch Schedule 40 pipe. Those headline figures are a starting point—not proof of equal performance on every material or radius.

Published Specifications: What Is Actually Different?

Buying consideration Ercolina TB60-TC [1, 2] Baileigh RDB-250 [3, 4]
Round tube Published maximum 2½ in.; capacity must be checked against the material, wall and tooling. Published mild-steel maximum 2½ in. OD × .125 in. wall.
Pipe 2 in. Schedule 40. 2 in. Schedule 40.
Rating conditions Catalog states A53 Grade A, 48,000 psi tensile; stronger and heavy-wall materials reduce capacity. Manual bases mild-steel Schedule 40 pipe capacity on 60,000 psi tensile material.
Maximum centerline radius 15 in. 9 in.
Control and storage Touchscreen; catalog lists unlimited storage with USB and 30 bends per program. Touchscreen; manual lists 170 programs with 10 bends per program.
Operator setup Screen displays bend angle, springback and speed; electronically monitored counterbending-die position. Manual provides bend-angle, springback, speed and counterdie-position setup instructions.
Electrical supply 220V single phase. 220V single phase; manual specifies 20A, 60Hz.
Published bend travel Catalog lists 0–210°. Product specification lists 205°; manual requires factory consultation for bending beyond 180°.
Positioning accessory Accepts optional A40-P two-axis positioning table. Confirm available accessories and the exact proposed workflow with the supplier.

Figures are published specifications for the identified models, not independent test results. Different material-rating assumptions prevent a direct strength-capacity verdict. Maximum radius, minimum radius, diameter and wall limits must not be combined as if every maximum is achievable simultaneously. Confirm the current control version, tooling and offered configuration.

Why Consider the Ercolina TB60-TC?

A Larger Published Maximum Bend Radius

The TB60-TC’s 15-inch maximum centerline radius is greater than the RDB-250’s published 9-inch maximum. That can matter when a part needs a larger-radius bend within the Ercolina’s approved capacity. It does not mean a larger radius is always better: the drawing determines the required radius, and suitable tooling and part clearance must be confirmed.

Programming That Keeps Setup Information in View

The TB60-TC touchscreen presents bend angle, springback and speed, together with machine status and alarms. Its electronically monitored counterbending-die position helps an operator restore a known setup. The published storage and 30-bend program capability support recalling repeat jobs.

The RDB-250 is also programmable and supports springback setup. The fair comparison is how easily an operator can create, verify, save and repeat a real job—not “programmable Ercolina versus an unprogrammable competitor.” Ask to watch the same operator task on both controls.

Loading, Tooling and Part Positioning

Ercolina publishes a swing-away counterbend-die vise for access during loading and unloading, quick-change tooling, and an optional A40-P positioning table. Ask CML USA to demonstrate these on your part, particularly where existing bends might interfere with the machine or tooling. Right- or left-hand capability with the specified vise accessory is a configuration consideration, not a promise of automatic bidirectional bending within a cycle.

Part Layout With Bend Genie

Bend Genie is included free with an Ercolina purchase; contact CML USA for activation details. It helps prepare the part layout, developed length, bend locations and bend-angle information before production. Use a trial bend to establish material-specific springback and verify the finished part.

Layout software does not automatically turn a programmable angle bender into a full CNC production system. Confirm how the operator transfers the bend data and positions the stock. Do not assume direct machine-code transfer or automatic feed and rotation.

Where the RDB-250 Deserves Fair Credit

The RDB-250 offers single-phase power, touchscreen programming, springback setup and published capacity information that includes tube wall thickness. Its product page advertises a 180-degree bending movement in as little as approximately nine seconds. That is not a guaranteed finished-part cycle: loading, clamping, repositioning, unloading and inspection still take time, and speed depends on the application.

Both machines use an electric drive. Ercolina explicitly specifies no hydraulic components; Baileigh’s product page and manual describe electric-drive operation and gearbox maintenance. It would be misleading to market this comparison as Ercolina electric versus Baileigh hydraulic. Neither a headline drive description nor the number of stored programs proves better finished-part accuracy.

Programmable Bend Angle Is Not Full CNC Automation

For a part with several bends, the shop must control not only the angle but also the distance between bends and rotation between bend planes. Ask who performs each movement and how the setup is verified. A positioning accessory can assist repeat work without being an automatic CNC feed-and-rotation system.

If the application requires thin-wall tube at a tight radius, controlled ovality or wrinkles, assess whether mandrel support is necessary. If automated feeding, rotation and bending are needed, discuss an appropriately configured Ercolina CNC mandrel bender rather than assuming either base machine performs that work.

Run the Same Acceptance Test on Both Machines

  1. Define the part: alloy, strength, outside diameter, wall, centerline radius, bend angles, tangent lengths and finished tolerances.
  2. Verify the tooling: exact tube or pipe size, radius, material compatibility, minimum wall and part clearance.
  3. Time the complete job: program entry, tool change, springback adjustment, loading, every positioning step, bending and unloading.
  4. Inspect several pieces: unloaded angle, dimensions, rotation, surface condition, ovality and any wrinkles. Repeatability is not established by one attractive sample.
  5. Compare configured quotes: machine, tooling sets, accessories, software offer, freight, installation, training, warranty and lead time.

Which Bender Is Right for Your Shop?

The TB60-TC deserves serious consideration when its larger published radius range, touchscreen workflow, tooling access and positioning options suit the work. The RDB-250 may suit jobs within its verified tooling and capacity range. The responsible choice is a part-specific evaluation—not a claim that one machine wins every application.

For Ercolina buyers, the strongest package is the machine together with correctly selected tooling, Bend Genie layout support and application guidance from CML USA. Start with the parts you need to make, then specify the equipment that can make them reliably.
